The Swim

Starting from Myrtleville Beach, you'll head north along the rugged East Cork coastline to Church Bay. This is a swim with serious character — strong tidal currents flow from the harbour mouth, creating fast-flowing water that challenges even experienced swimmers.

You'll swim past the iconic Dutch Man Rock, site of an old Dutch schooner that sank in a storm centuries ago and now rests on the reef below. The route navigates submerged rocky reefs and rocky outcrops jutting from the cliff face. Along the way, you'll spot the ruins of an old army turret from a once-active fort perched on the headland above.

This is not a swim for the faint-hearted — but it's unforgettable for those ready for the challenge.
