The Swim
The Sovereign Islands route is one of our most iconic and challenging open water swims. This 5km triangular route starts by swimming out of the harbour mouth, then turning left along the dramatic cliff face. From there, you peel off and head 1.3km out into true open water to Little Sovereign Rock — where tides and currents can be strong and the exposure is real.
After rounding the rock, you turn west towards Main Sovereign Island and swim through the split between the islands — an unforgettable moment. The islands are a renowned diving spot, teeming with sea life. Complete the triangle by turning north and swimming directly back to the harbour mouth.
This is serious open water swimming on a proper coastline. Our kayak guide and safety boat are with you the entire way, navigating the currents and monitoring conditions.
